PRODUCER'S DETAILS

Jimmy is originally from the municipality of La Union, Nariño, but has lived in San Pedro de
Cartago, in the north of the department of Nariño, for approximately 35 years. Jimmy is the
second generation of coffee growers in his family. He began farming in 2005, continuing the
family legacy and initially planting traditional varieties. The farm's name comes from the
large amount of guadua (a type of bamboo used in carpentry) that grows on the land.

FARM'S DETAILS

In 2010, the farm began seeking innovation and new market trends by starting to plant
varieties that were not common at that time, such as Typica, Geisha, Yellow Bourbon, Pink
Bourbon, Maragogype, and Laurina. In 2016, he ventured into the specialty coffee world,
starting as a quality analyst and cupper in a family cooperative located in the municipality of
Buesaco. In 2020, he started his own production, processing, and commercialization of
specialty coffees. Currently, he has 12 hectares, all dedicated to coffee cultivation, with
approximately 40,000 trees. The productive focus of the farm is primarily on searching for
new sensory profiles through experimentation and the application of innovative postharvest
processing techniques.

LOCATION`S DETAILS

La Guadua farm is located in the municipality of San Pedro de Cartago (1°33′05″N
77°07′08″O), in the village of Buenos Aires, at an average altitude of 2100 meters above sea
level. In Cartago, summers are short and hot; winters are short and comfortable and it is
oppressive, wet and cloudy throughout the year. During the course of the year, the
temperature generally varies from 20 °C to 29 °C and rarely drops below 19 °C or rises above
31 °C.

OTHER DETAILS

Likewise, thanks to the possibilities that Jimmy has had to work in companies dedicated to
specialty coffee, as an analyst and taster, he has been able to venture into the planting of
new varieties and apply unconventional processing processes, which have allowed him to
differentiate and position the coffee from his farm. It has participated in national and
regional events; in 2018, it participated in the Cup of Excellence , ranking among the top 30
lots of the event. In 2023, it participated in a regional competition of the Copa de Mi Nariño y
Tierra de la Diversidad, where it took second place with a Geisha variety lot and washed
process.
